Shockwave therapy for pain that has stopped healing

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) — a non-invasive treatment using acoustic waves to promote healing in chronic musculoskeletal conditions, performed by a physician trained at the Medical Shockwave Institute.

Please note — These procedures are not covered by insurance. We offer them at attractive and affordable self-pay prices — call the office for current pricing.

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment using acoustic waves to promote healing in musculoskeletal issues like tendinitis, plantar fasciitis and pain secondary to arthritis — breaking down calcifications, releasing growth factors and stimulating tissue regeneration. It often requires only a few sessions and offers a genuine alternative to surgery for chronic, stubborn conditions.

It works by creating a controlled inflammatory response, triggering growth factors, boosting cell proliferation and improving circulation to speed up repair in tendons, ligaments, muscles and bone — leading to pain relief and improved function.

How it works

1

Acoustic waves

The therapy delivers high-energy sound waves to the affected area.

2

Stimulates healing

These waves encourage new blood vessel formation (neovascularization), increase cell activity and release growth factors.

3

Breaks down deposits

It can help break up calcium deposits in tendons, as in calcific tendinitis.

4

Reduces pain

It also affects nerve endings, reducing pain signals.

Conditions commonly treated

Tendinopathies — tennis elbow, Achilles, patellar
Plantar fasciitis
Calcific tendinitis of the shoulder
Myofascial pain
Shoulder tendinopathy
Lateral epicondylosis / epicondylitis
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
Hamstring tendinopathy
Medial tibial stress syndrome
Knee osteoarthritis
Fracture nonunion

Benefits

Non-invasive — no incisions are needed
Quick sessions — treatments usually last 10 to 15 minutes
Typically three sessions, spaced about a week apart
Minimal downtime — patients can often return to normal activities immediately

Questions patients ask

Published research on extracorporeal shockwave therapy reports meaningful reductions in pain scores within the first few months of treatment for a number of tendon and joint conditions, and many patients report a reduced reliance on daily pain medication. Response varies with the condition being treated and how long it has been present — Dr. Siram will tell you honestly whether your particular problem is one that tends to respond, and whether it is worth trying in your case.

There is no downtime. You can resume your activity immediately.

Typically three sessions are recommended, spaced approximately one week apart. Your response is reassessed as you go.

At Primary Care 369 the procedure is performed by our provider, Dr. Gayatri Siram, trained at the Medical Shockwave Institute. We offer the treatments at attractive and affordable prices, as these procedures are not covered by insurance.
